remember the year.....1969. High school. When I wasn't dreaming about burning it down. I was running the schools radio station. We were on the AM band, preaching insurrection, rebellion, and rock n roll. Needless to say I was the darling of the administration.
At night, I would drive to the bus parking lot, lay on the warm hood of the car, crank up the radio, and listen to some of the greatest jocks in the world. Those of WLS, Chicago. At night their 50,000 watt signal got all the way down here to the Center of the New South. It was a form of radio I had never imagined possible. Amazing on air personalities, perfect jingles, and even though it was the same playlist I had......it sounded NOTHING like anything I had heard. For those of you who never heard Larry Lujack, John Landecker, Fred Winston, Lyle Dean, et al, prepare yourself. For the rest of us.....lets jump in the way back machine to a time where radio was fun and had variety. If you enjoy this video, you will LOVE having Your Own FM station. The 25th Anniversary of The Big 89......WLS (originally aired in 1985)
